Is your scratch or dent covered?

A scratch on the bumper. A dent from a trolley. A stone chip on the bonnet.

They might all look small, but how do you know whether your Scratch & Dent benefit can help?

The easiest place to start is with one question:

“Can it be repaired, or does something need to be replaced?”

The Unlimited Scratch & Dent is designed to help with minor, repairable damage caused by everyday use, like light scratches, minor dents and stone chips that can be filled and sealed. It can also include scuffs, stone chips and paint defects on wheel rims or mag wheels.

A quick visual check

Think of it like this:

  • Scratch: The size and extent of the scratch will be considered as part of the assessment. Damage must meet the requirements set out in the applicable benefit terms.
  • Dent: Around the size of your hand or a small side plate may still be considered minor, depending on the repair required.
  • Stone chip: If it can be filled and sealed to prevent corrosion, it may qualify.
  • Bare metal showing: It’s best to first get it assessed rather than assuming it is excluded.
  • Rust or bubbling paint: This is not covered.
  • Panel or part needs replacing: This falls outside the benefit.
  • Ripped, torn or cracked panel: This is also excluded.

It is about the repair cost too

Rather than giving you a set number of dents or scratches, the benefit works according to your available maintenance and restoration limit.

For the R4 000 benefit, you have access to up to R4 000 including VAT every 90 days. That full amount could, for example, be used towards repairing one dent if that is what the approved repair costs. Any approved amount above your available benefit is for your own account, and remember, we do not cover quotes above R7500.

As a general guide:

Minor + repairable = may qualify, refer to the terms and conditions.
Replacement, accident damage, rust or major structural damage = generally not what this benefit is designed for, see exclusions in the terms and conditions.

And importantly, always get the repair pre-authorised before any work begins.
