The Unlimited team tests its mettle for The Unlimited Child with a gruelling 70km walk

A dozen employees from The Unlimited joined Chief Marketing Officer, Gerard Metzer, for a 70 kilometre walk from Watercrest Mall to Umhlanga on 5 January in an effort to stretch their personal boundaries and raise money for The Unlimited Child. The gruelling walk kicked off after midnight, 12:30am and all walkers arrived by the early evening, having defeated thirst, blisters, heat, aching muscles and dehydration along the way.

Aside from admin and logistics costs, most of the entry fee each employee contributed will be donated to The Unlimited Child, a non-profit initiative that to give young children in over 2000 disadvantaged crèches a chance to live an incredible life through high-quality early childhood education.

Says Metzer: “As a holistic workplace, we like to help our employees to stretch themselves and reach their full potential in their careers and personal lives. We are all challenged to choose a big, daring goal for the year, and some chose to take part in this walk. We trained hard for the event, learning a great deal about ourselves in the process and creating a foundation for excellence in the year to come.”

“Ultra-walking tests your mettle – both physically and mentally. It also prepares you to deal with adversity and puts the small daily challenges into perspective—they are trivial compared to walking 70 kilometres! It’s great for bonding as a team, encouraging a healthy workplace, and showing people that they can accomplish great things if they set their mind to it,” concludes Brett Fuller, Strategy Executive.
